As a taster, the above video shows Year 11 student Mason Johnstone on drums performing with Matt Penman (New York) on bass, and Roger Manins (saxophone), Dixon Nacey (guitar) and Kevin Field (piano), all from the University of Auckland.

This is a fundraising event for the Music Department for the 2024 Music Tour to Los Angeles in September.

The Big Band Jazz Spectacular features an all-star line-up of current and past students and associates of Hamilton Boys’ High School. Featuring a 40-piece jazz orchestra backing two of the most outstanding singers in the Waikato performing the biggest hits from Frank
Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.

Special guests Ash Puriri and Jessica Ruck-Nu'u will sing hits including: New York, New York, My Way, The Lady Is A Tramp, Come Fly With Me, That's Life, The Very Thought Of You, Paper Moon, I Only Have Eyes For You, and many more.

The Jazz Orchestra will be conducted by Hamilton Boys’ High Schools jazz maestro Paul Norman (University of Waikato). Alumni musicians performing will include Mike Booth (trumpet), Andrew Hall (sax), Nathan Koretz (sax) and others. The string section will feature local icons Sharon Stephens, Victoria Trenwith,and Chris Nation.

Our Director of Culture, Mr Dent, believes this will be the highest calibre music concert involving the Hamilton Boys’ High School Music Department since the 2011 centenary concert. Make sure to get your tickets to support the HBHS Music students involved in this once in a lifetime tour opportunity.
