ποΈ 2024 Sports Awards Evening
On Wednesday the 23rd of October, HBHS celebrated what has been a stellar year in sports.
A huge thank you to our guest speaker for the night, Mr Sam Dakin.
Sam spoke of his feats in cycling, mainly as a track cyclist focusing on speed. His day job is as a member of the NZ High Performance Squad. He was selected for the New Zealand Olympic Menβs Sprint team for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Sam won a bronze medal in the Team Sprint at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He is the 2024 National Keirin champion, the 2024 National Men's Sprint champion as well, and holds the NZ record for Sprints. He competed at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics where he competed in the Menβs Keirin and as part of the Team Sprint event.
Sam shared a few stories of his own about his Olympic journey and his main idea of chasing moments, not outcomes was a key takeaway for those present.
