🥅 Lacrosse 2023 🏆
This year, our Lacrosse team participated in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships and the Waikato Secondary Schools League. The National Secondary Schools Tournament was held during the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of September at Tamahere Park. In round-robin play on Saturday, HBHS defeated Morrinsville College 5-4 and Cambridge High School 3-2. On Sunday, HBHS won against Te Awamutu College 6-2 and Saint Peter’s Cambridge 6-5, sending our team through to the tournament final unbeaten. In the final, HBHS faced Cambridge High School again. HBHS won the final 5-3, finishing first overall and receiving New Zealand Secondary Schools gold medals and the Clarkson Family Cup. Special mentions go to team captain, Benjamin Johnson, and Jake Armstrong and Kayde Jones who were selected as part of the tournament team.
The final of the Waikato Secondary Schools League was held on Sunday the 27th of August at Tamahere Park. Heading into finals Sunday, HBHS made it through the season undefeated. HBHS lost to Cambridge High School 7-6, putting our team in the play-off for 3rd or 4th place. HBHS played against St Peter’s Cambridge and won 8-7, finishing the local season third overall and receiving Waikato Secondary Schools bronze medals.
In representative news, current student Benjamin Johnson and Old Boys Scott Cathcart, Ben Cowen, and Mark Seager travelled to Australia in April as part of the New Zealand Under 18 Men's team.
Congratulations to past students, Scott Cathcart and Kyle Parker on their acceptance of lacrosse scholarships at Chowan University and Northland College in the U.S.A.
