🥋 HBHS fighters in the medals at the Core MMA Grappling Tournament 🥇 🥈

Dan Bair —

Last weekend HBHS students made an awesome account of themselves at the Core MMA grappling (no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) tournament featuring over 80 fighters from around our province. Our boys have been cross training in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and SAMBO, supported by dedicated coaching from HBHS Old Boy and International MMA fighter Carlo Meister, and Parent Coach Mr Alexander Kalnins. Rasheed Noori fought hard in his bracket to claim a silver. Year 11 student Xander Kalnins claimed a solid gold in his division, while Abdul Noori also took gold, winning best submission of the night when rendering his opponent unconscious with a head and arm choke. Grappling sports offer all the physicality of contact sports with a drastically reduced rate of head injury, making them a great way to develop strength, coordination, endurance and health.

Core MMA has offered HBHS students some incredible opportunities this year as we prepare our young fighters for regional and National-level competition. Congratulations to our grappling crew!
