lynnette Ross —

Learn how the the university works with their high performance athletes to not only excel in their sporting endeavours, but also to prepare for a successful and fulfilling life beyond sport through academic support, career guidance and scholarship opportunities.

More than Medals Day

You are invited to our More than Medals Day if you are a high performance athlete who may benefit from hearing from Olympic athletes who were also students and how the managed their lives. There will also be information about our Hillary Scholarships which are now valued at $30K.

Our keynote speaker is Nathan Twaddle, an Olympic medallist and alumni of the University (PGDipFin). He will then be facilitating the panel which will have four current students and one alumni:

  • Bryony Botha – has a BSocSci and is currently enrolled in a Masters of Management Studies in Marketing and BComm. She is an Olympic cyclist, who attended Rangitoto College.

  • Rico D’Anvers – 4th year BE (Hons), races BMX and went to St Paul's Collegiate.

  • Emma Findlay – 3rd yr BHSHP, plays hockey joining the Black Sticks last year. She attended Taradale High School.

  • Hamish Legarth – 4th yr BE (Hons), in the NZ Kayak squad and attended Havelock North High School.

  • Morgan Haakma – completed a BHSHP in 2017 and then a Masters in HSHP in 2021. She is a competitive wakeboarder and now works for The Waterboy which is an organisation who work to make sport an achievable option for all NZ kids. Morgan attended New Plymouth's Sacred Heart Girls' College.

This will be followed by afternoon tea, a scholarships information session and a campus tour. We encourage students to attend with their parents/guardians and they can indicate this on the registration.
