Condor Sevens 2022

On the 4th of December the Premier Open HBHS Sevens squad headed up to Auckland for the annual Condor Sevens Tournament held at King's College. On our first day we played a well drilled St Pats Silverstream, beating them 22-14. On the final game of day one we had a convicting win over Mount Albert Grammar School, 59-0.

On the second day we knew we had three massive games ahead of us, starting with De La Salle College. We then found ourselves playing Super 8 rivals, Palmerston North Boys' High School. The game was well controlled by our co-captain Mac Russ who led from the front, scoring the opening try which helped us to maintain a consistent lead and win the game.

Our final was to be played against a big and strong Kelston Boys' side, Kelston got off to a flying start, scoring two tries in the first five minutes. With one minute to go in the first half, winger Brodie Robinson scored a try in the corner to make the score 14-7. After a try from Kelston under the sticks, the score was pushed out to 21-7. HBHS struck back with two quick tries from Hiraka Waitai-Haenga and Oli Mathis leaving the score at 17-21. Year 11 Dallas Rata-Makene secured the game after dotting the ball down under the post after an impressive run beating several men, leaving the final score at 22-21 and HBHS as National Champions.
