🏴 Black Ferns Sevens take on HBHS Sevens 🏉 🇳🇿

Cameron Moorby —

One final hit out was required for our New Zealand Black Ferns Sevens Team before boarding their plane for Paris and our boys provided just what was needed.

Hamilton put on a stunner of a day last Friday the 21st of June as we played host to the New Zealand Black Ferns Women's Sevens Team. The New Zealand women are in their final two weeks of preparation for the 2024 Olympics and they sought one last hit out to cap off their preparation. As Associate Headmaster Mr Nigel Hotham's daughter Jazmin is in the team, it made the organisation of this event a must. The Black Ferns were seeking a simulation of what things are going to be like in Paris. They wanted atmosphere, crowd noise and to be cheered against. As well as this, they were also after stiff competition on the field as they were all things they felt they will have to contend with in the Stade De France at the end of July. The girls got what they wished for and more as the full day school were released from class just in time for kick off at 12:30pm. A rousing rendition of the haka was performed sideline and the atmosphere was immense. The 12 man HBHS Team consisted of 6 Argyle students: Koewyn Kearins-Te Whare, Hunter Hammond, Carlos Campen, Tom Foote, Toby Wales, and Corban Dunlop. After going down early by two tries, the boys found their groove and managed to score some outstanding tries of their own, eventually running away winners, 31 - 14. We wish our Black Ferns Women Sevens Team all the very best for their Olympic Campaign in Paris, and we look forward to cheering them on as they go for gold!
