HBHS win Gold and Silver at NZSS Triathlon Championships 🥇🥈
It was an historic one-two on Saturday the 26th of March for HBHS in New Plymouth, as Summer Tournament Week 2022 got underway.
Our Summer Tournament Week got off to a cracking start this past weekend, as our Under 19 Boys Teams Triathletes won gold and silver at the New Zealand Secondary Schools competition. Two teams and one individual competed at New Plymouth where the race involved competitors completing a 750m swim, 18.5 km cycle and a 5 km run. After losing one runner to COVID last week (Liam Davis) and another runner just a week on from COVID, preparations weren’t ideal and we were very lucky to have Mathijs Wetzels step in at the very last minute for us. HBHS claimed the gold medal with the team of Dominic Fawkner (swim), Robin Kos (cycle), and Joe Morgan (run) and took the National title. HBHS then won the silver medal with Quinn Boyle (swim), Reuben Fraser (cycle), and Mathijs Wetzels (run). At the same time the Captain of Multisport, Lochlan Brown, was racing in the Under 19 Men’s individual event. He had a strong race and finished fourth overall. All these athletes, apart from Quinn, are in Year 13 so it was a great way to start their last year of competition at secondary school. Thanks to all the parents who stepped in when I caught COVID three days before the competition. Your help was much appreciated.
Dominic Fawkner (750m swim), Robin Kos (20km cycle), and Joseph Morgan (5km run) won gold, and Quinn Boyle (750m swim), Reuben Fraser (20km cycle), and Mathijs Wetzels (5km run) finished behind them in second place to comprehensively take out the overall title. Lochlan Brown also finished fourth in the Under 19 Individual event to round out a fantastic weekend of competition. Congratulations to all of our athletes and thanks and congratulations to Teacher in Charge Mrs Leeann Morgan for her work with our team. Tino pai!
