⚾ Softball 2023
The 2023 softball season started off with high numbers as HBHS fielded two teams in the Open College Grade; a Year 9-10 Junior Team and a Year 11-13 Senior Team. The Senior Team was led courageously by Year 13 Captain Denzel Albert and coached by Hamilton Softball guru, Tony Snow. The Junior team was led by Sonny Rika and coached by Mr Tiffany. Both teams faced tough opposition and missed the expertise of several players who played softball and baseball in Auckland's Men’s Grades. Both teams were just short of making the final, but had some great battles when they played against each other on several occasions.
Term 4 saw many player changes with Mr Snow and Mr Tiffany combining their powers to form a Year 9-13 supersquad that battled hard each weekend. Manaia Snow took over the captaincy with the retirement of Denzel Albert. The Junior players stepped up big time with Year 9 players Pirimona Neha and Rereahu Ihaka starring as starting pitchers. This dedicated team made the Grand Final and battled hard against old foes Southnet. HBHS was up 2-1 in the second innings, but could not hold off the firepower of the opposition, going down 11-6 in an amazing final game of the year.
Congratulations to all Junior and Senior players who received an award at Sports Prize Givings. Also a special mention to all players who made Regional and National representative teams. All the best for your campaigns.
