🌳 Arbor Day 🌲
How to plant 5000 trees in a day!!!
Arbor Day celebrates nature and encourages people to plant trees and help improve the environment. It was first celebrated in New Zealand back in 1870 but officially became an annual event from June 5th, 1977. Councils from around the country have been running these events every year and have planted thousands of trees all over the country. On the 5th of June, three members of the Service Committee and a group of other volunteers from around the school drove to the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park to plant trees for Arbor Day. Upon arrival, Hamilton Council representatives spoke to us about the day and the vital role trees play in the environment. One of the organisers then talked us through how to properly plant the trees and then we were under way. There were many people from all over Hamilton who came out to help and by midday all the trees had been planted and the boys took a well deserved scenic walk through the park. It was a great day filled with a lot of work and we all felt a sense of accomplishment when we had finished. Thanks to all the volunteers!
