🏄‍♂️ Surfing 2022 🏆 🇳🇿

Wendy Moffitt —

Year 13 student Tana Clapham is the New Zealand Under 18 Mens Surfing Champion, after a dominant performance in his home town of Raglan. He was joined by Sam Potter (Year 13) and Brylie Adams (Year 13), and the team competed against 170 students from 30 schools, mainly from the North Island. Brylie finished fourth in his heat, Sam finished third, and Tana powered through his heats and through the semi-finals and final on Wednesday, at Ruapuke Beach.

These results were good enough to have our school finish in fifth place overall, behind traditionally strong surfing schools, such as Whangamata Area School and Mount Maunganui College. Congratulations to our surfing team on their efforts, and thanks and congratulations to Mr Jeff Harnish for his support of our HBHS surfers. Tino pai!

In addition to this success, Tana has achieved a range of impressive results in his time at HBHS.  He has placed fifth five times in National Tournaments, as an Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 competitor. He has also finished third in the Under 18 National Scholastic Surfing Championships.
