⛳ Old Boys on Top of their Golf Game
Tyler Wood and James Fellows-Ford, members of the 2017 Elite HBHS Golf squad who came second in New Zealand, finish second and third in the Waikato Men's Winter Stroke Play.
The current Elite Golf Squad who play 9 holes at St Andrew's every Thursday have been bumping into Old Boy golfing legends from my time as teacher in charge. The first is Tyler Wood, the school number one in 2017, now a member of the New Zealand Golf Academy. Tyler shot rounds of 69, 69, 68 and 71 in the Waikato Men's Winter Stroke Play to finish tied for first on 11 under par, but, unfortunately, lost in a play-off for the second year in a row. Next, it's James Fellow-Ford, the 2017 Captain of Golf, who finished third in the Men's Waikato Winter Stroke Play with scores of 67, 69, 72 and 71 to finish at 9 under par. Following on is Denzel Ieremia, the first golfer to turn professional during my time as teacher in charge, an Iowa State University golfing legend, with a stroke average of 72 in his final year, a top 5 finish in the Australian Open and HBHS Golf Captain in 2012 and 2013. They also see Jayden Cleary (Year 13 Class of 2016) who works at St Andrew's Golf Course training to become a qualified PGA Golf coach and Anthony East (Year 13 Class of 2020) studying full-time Mechanical Engineering at Waikato University.
This is so special for me as Teacher in Charge of Golf, seeing Old Boys that have turned out to be such fine young men. They are great role models for the current year group who were to head off to Nationals in September at Titirangi Golf Course. The experience they can pass on and the opportunity for the current group to play with them is priceless.
