🏴 D League Basketball 🏀

Murray McKenzie —

'Bricked Up', a team of players from Argyle House, won their league game comfortably 42 - 18 on Wednesday 21st June.

'Bricked Up' have been competing over Term 2 every Wednesday evening in Gymnasium 1 at HBHS.

The D League competition is made up solely of HBHS students who missed out on the elite teams that play in the Waikato Secondary Schools' weekly league. Also playing are boys involved in another sporting code who have no training on a Wednesday.

The boys make up their own team, purchase a D League singlet and turn up at the designated time on the draw each Wednesday to play other teams from HBHS. No other schools are involved.

It is an excellent competition that is played from 3.30 - 6.00pm each Wednesday.

HBHS teacher and Year 13 Dean, Whaea Randell, runs a Basketball Academy of Referees, that she coaches and mentors. They referee the games and are paid, that includes Year 11 Argyle House boarders, Luka Urlich-Broadhead and Lexis Marsh.

It is a wonderful concept and the boys love playing in a relaxed, yet competitive, environment.

The 'Bricked Up' team members, all in Year 10, that played on Wednesday 21st June were: Nikau Collins, Logan Fulton, Ari McMillan, Regan O'Shea, Hunter Ramsay, and Cole Arnold. Absentees were Bailey Babington and Max Parrott.

The Referee in the black and white striped top is Luka Urlich-Broadhead (Year 11).
