Maxwell Kara (Year 9) holds the John Steel Trophy

As Captain of the victorious Under 14A Rugby team that defeated the HBHS Under 15B team 40-31, in their Top 4 round-robin game of the Waikato Secondary Schools' Under 15 Division 1 competition. Other Argyle boarders in the team are Shakur Cook, Thomas Foote, Julius Ale-Kaitai and Ethan Hyatt

This was the inaugural game of the John Steel Trophy, played at HBHS on Field 4, Thursday 30th June after school. The team that holds the trophy at the end of the season will have their name engraved on the trophy.

The trophy is only played between these two teams.

John Steel was a teacher and Head of the HBHS Tech Wood department for 31 years, retiring at the end of 2021. In his time at HBHS, John has coached the 1st XV, was Master In-Charge of Rugby, coached the Under 15A team and in recent times has been coach of the Under 15B team. The game between the Under 14A and Under 15B teams has been a fiercely contested fixture over past years.
