HBHS 1st XI Hockey team play St Paul's for the Matthew Allen Cup

The Matthew Allen Cup is put up for the first game played between St Paul's Collegiate 1st XI and HBHS 1st XI in the new hockey season.

Blake Irwin (Year 12), Ryan McConnell (Year 13), Corban Denize (Year 11)and Jono Nelson (Year 12) are in the HBHS 1st XI and played out an exciting 0 - 0 draw after 60 minutes of play at the Gallagher Hockey Centre on Wednesday 15th June.

The Matthew Allen Cup is always a fiercely contested annual fixture between two proud hockey schools and was named in recognition of Matthew Allen, a Year 11 boarder at Argyle House and member of the HBHS 1st XI Hockey team, who was tragically killed in a car accident in October 1998.

75 Argyle House boarders bussed down to support our 1st XI Hockey team, along with members of the HBHS 1st XV and 2nd XV Rugby teams. The HBHS support was constant, with loud cheering, chanting and a wonderful haka on the grandstand. It was a wonderful evening of high quality sporting and spectator entertainment.

The trophy will be shared between the two schools for 6 months of the year.
