HBHS Performers Storm the Stage at the National Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival

Our Teacher in Charge of Drama, Mr Dwight Ashton, reports on how our actors fared at the recent Shakespeare Festival in Wellington.

The nine boys listed below were involved in the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival in Wellington, over Queen's Birthday weekend.  We participated in the 15-minute scene section against 47 other schools and won three of the top awards including Most Effective Design, Outstanding Music/Song and Most Thought Provoking Performance.  Besides the two days of Shakespeare performances at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre, the boys also participated in a day of workshops where experts in their field taught a variety of performance skills.  They also visited Parliament and sat in the banquet hall of the Beehive to hear talks from the Deputy Prime Minister and feedback from the esteemed judges of the festival.  We attended the theatre and saw a performance from the New Zealand School of Dance.
