HBHS 1st XI Football team triumph over Tauranga Boys' College

On the 23rd of June in the Tauranga Boys’ High exchange, the HBHS 1st XI started proceedings with a 2 - 0 win.

With the midwinter sun shining and a top spot for National qualifiers up for grabs, both teams were primed for the game.  After being under the pump early on, we managed to hold out a strong Tauranga Boys' front line before capitalising on some errors from Tauranga to put ourselves 1 - 0 up from Sopharachwathanakh Bee Hong.  With momentum on our side, we continued to attack and this soon paid off as we saw ourselves take a handy 2 - 0 lead just minutes later, courtesy of a great strike from Legion Rogerson.  Our defence held strong and we saw ourselves go into the half 2 - 0 up.  Although we were feeling comfortable we knew Tauranga would not back down and would come back strong.  This proved to be the case and for most of the second half, Tauranga dominated possession.  However, the HBHS defence was resolute and we managed to hold them out for the remainder of the half.  With this 2 - 0 win we finished top of the Waikato Bay of Plenty region and qualified as top seed for the National championships to be held later on this year.
