Representative Honours

At our Celebration Assembly in February we congratulated our newest National representatives.

It has been a successful summer for some of our top athletes in a range of other sports with a number of athletes selected to represent various National Age Group sides over the coming April holidays. Honours caps will be awarded where applicable at the conclusion of their tours.

We begin with Lacrosse, where Year 13 student Benjamin Johnson has been selected in the NZ Under 18 Side to play in Perth, Australia. His selection is the result of a rigorous selection process involving multiple training camps.

In football, we have had two players selected in New Zealand Secondary Schools Representative teams to tour Malaysia in the April Holidays.

Year 11 student Josh Barrymore-Uden has been selected in the NZSS Under 16 Football team with Year 12 student Isaac Bates selected in the NZSS Under 19 team, an outstanding achievement for a 16 year old. Both boys were selected from an initial trial group which was followed by North Island versus South Island games to select the final squad. They will play equivalent teams from Malaysia and Singapore during their tour.

Isaac will be joined in the touring squad by our Director of Football and Senior Academic Dean, Mr Aaron Scott, who has been appointed as an Assistant Coach for the Under 19 side.

In touch, following the announcement of the Senior Men’s Touch Blacks which included five old boys, we have had two students, Te Maia Huirama (Year 12) and Rangiwai Lunjevich (Year 13), selected in the New Zealand Under 18 team to travel to Brisbane, Australia. These boys were identified at the Under 18 National Championships last year and came through a range of selection camps to make the final squad to travel.

I would like to wish all of our athletes all the best for your upcoming season. HBHS has a proud history of excelling in sport and we look forward to hearing of the successes of our HBHS whānau in the coming year.
