Advanced Learning gets a boost from the Ministry of Education

We caught up with the Director of Advanced Learning Programmes at HBHS, Ms Noeline Ashby, to find out about this funding initiative.

Supporting our academically able students and empowering them to achieve at the highest levels has always been a priority at HBHS, and this year, thanks to the efforts of Ms Ashby and the Deputy Headmaster of Academics, Dr David Williams, the programme was awarded $6000.  These funds can now be used to support the professional development of staff who work with our gifted students in order to support them to achieve to the best of their wide range of abilities.  Recently HBHS celebrated the academic achievements of the class of 2022, who won 79 Scholarships, including a Top in Subject in Physics attained by our Dux of 2022, Michael Lin.  Two of our current students, Thomas Ter Beek (AS English) and Harry O'Rourke (IGCSE Economics) won Top in New Zealand Awards in the Cambridge International Examination Programme, which is offered as an extension qualification to our most able students.

The HBHS Advanced Learning Programme recognises that these results are the end-point of a four and five year journey for our most able students, and this funding will be able to help support these students along the way.  It also acknowledges the wide range of abilities and skills that our most gifted students possess, and helps students to maximise their potential in a range of different subjects and fields. As our core business, academic success is always the top priority, and this additional funding will help our best and brightest succeed.
