Introducing the Waikato Teams Golf Champions

Mr Kuggeleijn, with the help of three members of the 1st XI Cricket team, shot 62 (9 birdies) which converted to a net score of 55 to win the top prize!

HBHS took ten teams to Matamata Golf Course on Monday 8th of August to challenge for the Waikato Teams trophies. We had students from every year level and most sporting codes taking part in a fun activity playing 18 holes of golf. The fog delayed the start but when it cleared Payton Spencer (Sports Captain, bowler), Snehith Devireddy (all-rounder), Ewald Schreuder (all-rounder) and Mr Kuggeleijn (Coach) tore up the course, shooting 62 off the stick for a combined score of 9 under. Their net score of 55 was matched by two other schools, but because our team got the most birdies they were declared the winners.

In addition, the HBHS Team 4 came 4th. This team consisted of some future up and coming golfers who were lead by Mr Harmon (parent), Maiaorere Harmon (Year 11), Nicholas Seel (Year 9), and Mitchell Barker (Year 9). Golf is a great sport, and students can join up "Futures Golf" which allows access to nine different courses. We are very lucky at HBHS as we play the most competitive golf of any school in our district as we play Super 8 Golf and Golf is involved with all of our traditional exchanges.

I want to take this opportunity to wish our golfers the best of luck in the National Secondary School Golf Championships. Team 1 is Jakob Bird (Golf Captain, No.2), Michael Ellis (HBHS No.1) and Isaac Steel (Junior Champion, No.3) and Team 2 is Ricci Putohi (HBHS No.4), Chris Seel (HBHS No.5) and Cole Tosland (HBHS No. 6). They play two rounds of golf and the best two scores of the team of three count in both rounds. The school team with the lowest combined score over the two rounds is declared the National Champions. They are also competing to be declared the Secondary School Individual Golfing Champion. Best of luck to you all.
