Newsletter Week 8, Term 1

Claudine Campbell —

Kia ora whanau. We hope the children are all enjoying their latest Duffy books. We are grateful to be part of Duffy Books in Homes with the support of Mainfreight who sponsor this. We were treated to a fun Duffy Theatre performance last Friday.

Hero Student Management System: We hope you have all managed to connect to Hero.  Next term, we will open up the Reporting function which means you will be able to access your child's report through the Hero app and website at the end of Term 2.  If you have not managed to connect yet, please get in touch with the office or your child's teacher.

Kai for Kids: During the school holidays in April, Kai for Kids are going to open up the kitchen for lunch for any students of Hampstead School and their whanau. The kitchen will be open each week day over the  holidays between 11.00am – 12.30pm. This kai is available at no cost to families. Kai for Kids is located at the Ashburton Racecourse on Racecourse Road. Follow the Kai for Kids signs once at the racecourse building.

Paid Union Meeting on 27 March:  Our teachers will all be attending a Paid Union Meeting offsite on the afternoon on Wednesday 27 March.  There will be no instruction on that afternoon as we have no teaching staff available.  Students will finish their day at 12.30 and will bring their Kai for Kids lunches home with them.  If you are unable to make arrangements for your child/ren to be collected at 12.30 on Wednesday, please let the office or your class teacher know.

Class Photos: Heritage Photography will be here to take our annual class photos on the morning of Tuesday 26 March.  If you would like sibling photos taken, please head over to the hall at 8.30am.  They will spend the morning taking individual and class photos.  Please ensure children are in correct school uniform including black shoes.

Japanese Students visit: We were very fortunate to have a group of Japanese students from Ashburton College visit our school and share their culture with us.  Jin and Leon and their Mum Nanae did a fantastic job sharing their language and experience with us too.  Our students really enjoyed connecting with students from another country and learning some Japanese language and about the culture.

Strike Percussion Performance: Our students were delighted by this traveling percussion performance group.  They used a range of drums, xylophone and even violin.  This performance was interactive, with audience participation including teachers Miss Leonard and Miss Hensman!
