Claudine Campbell — Mar 22, 2023

Kia ora Hampstead School whanau. We are very excited to share the news that our Miss Hannah Gray and Caz welcomed Angus David Kenyon-Gray into the world on Wednesday 22nd March. Congratulations Hannah and we can't wait to meet Angus and have lots of cuddles.

School Council 2023: Each class in Year 3-6 appoints a student to represent their class on the School Council.  This year we welcome Nadine (Rm 7), Jakob (Rm 8), Zaria (Rm 9), Holly (Rm 10), Jesse (Rm 11), Ry (Rm 12), Owen (Rm 13), Jaxson (Rm 14) and Rikki (Rm 15).  We had our first meeting last week and discussed leadership and how they can help to make our school the best place it can be for our students.  Congratulations to you all.

Duffy Books in Schools:  We are proud to be a Duffy school and we are grateful for the sponsorship that Mainfreight provide to make this possible.  Our tamariki receive 6-8 books per year for their home collection to support a lifelong love of reading.  They received their first two for the year at Duffy Assembly this week. Mainfreight invited our Pasifika group to perform at the opening of their new Tinwald depot last week.  We were very proud of how the children performed and the respect and pride they displayed.  We even had a phone call from a former Hampstead pupil who was at the opening saying how amazing our kids were.  Thank you Malu for all your efforts making this happen for our children.

Road Patrol Refresher Training:  Constable Sean has been back in to provide refresher training to our Year 6 Road Patrol wardens.  We thank them for keeping everyone safe getting across Wellington St and Oxford St after school each day.

Science in a Van: We were entertained by two Science in a Van shows on Tuesday. The juniors learnt about forces and friction through the stories of The billy goats gruff. The senior students learnt about solids, liquids and gases. They also got an introduction to the periodic table. The hosts of the show said Hampstead student’s were outstanding with their respect, contribution and ideas and manners.

Te Whare Tapa Wha: Please have a look through some of the photos that classes have shared from their learning about Te Whare Tapa Wha.  In this inquiry, students learn about ways to nurture their hauora (wellbeing) to feel their best.

Students of the Week: Last week we acknowledged Ruby (Rm 10) because she is always kind, caring and has a positive outlook to both her work and fellow students. She always tries her best and doesn’t give it, even if things are tricky. She is a bright light in Room 10 and a lovely role model for Hampstead School.  This week we celebrated Hanitea (Rm 6) Hanitea is a kind and caring student who goes out of her way to help others. She is an excellent role-model who is responsible and sensible in her choice making. Hanitea always gives her best in everything she tries even when it is hard. Tino pai tō mahi!

PALs Leaders: Our Physical Activity Leaders were presented with their certificates and lanyards by Miss Leonard in Assembly.  Congratulations to our our 2023 PALs Leaders.
