Newsletter Week 4, Term 2

Claudine Campbell —

Kia ora e te Whanau. This week has had a safety focus for the children with Road Safety Week and NZ Bullying-Free Week happening this week. We have had a visit from Fran (we know her as Constable Fran) who came with her dog Kobe and taught the children about safety around dogs.

School Cross Country: Thursday 25th May from 11am to 12:30pm (approx).  Our competitive Year 5/6 runners will start off the event at 11am, followed by Year 0/1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and finishing with the non-competitive Year 5 and Year 6 fun run.  All welcome to attend and support the children.  Lunchtime and afternoon programmes will commence after the last event.  Children are welcome to bring shorts and sneakers or run in their uniform.  Qualifying Year 5 & 6 students that gain entry to the County Cross Country will compete on Wednesday 7 June at the Ashburton A&P Showgrounds.

NZ Bullying-Free Week: Every week should always be bully-free and we always want to know about anything that is bothering children at school.  This nationwide celebration week is a great opportunity to remind the children of what makes them special and unique as well as equip them with skills to be an 'upstander' if they see something happening that is not ok.

Road Safety: Our Road Patrol Superheroes keep our children safe every day after school crossing the road on Wellington St and Oxford St.  We thank them for the commitment to keeping everyone safe.  Thanks also goes to the Ashburton District Council for sending us a whole lot of freebies and activities for Road Safety Week.

PTA Pie Fundraiser: Our dedicated PTA are selling Pies from the "Naked Baker".  Great for filling the freezer for winter.  An order form will come home today for each family.  An order form is also available in the office if anyone outside our school would like to order.  All orders must be in by 7 June.

Treasure Island Show: We had performers from NZ Playhouse perform for all the children on Tuesday.  It is a wonderful experience for the children to see a live performance and there's always a little audience participation too.

Students of the Week: Week 3 - Tupou of Rm 9 has been an amazing member of Room 9 this year. She is very considerate of all her classmates, always being positive and offering her help to those when they need it. Tupou has a very bright, bubbly and caring personality and is always so polite. She gives everything a go and tries her hardest to push herself within her classwork. She is such an awesome role model to have in Room 9 and Hampstead School! Week 4 - Jaylah of Rm 15 is an amazing student and a wonderful role model. She is a fantastic listener, always follows instructions and approaches any challenge with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. She is a calm, thoughtful and caring student who always shows respect for both her peers and teachers. Her manners are impeccable, she takes pride in her learning and can be relied on to ‘do the right thing’. Her kind and friendly approach, brings a fun, pleasant atmosphere to Room 15 which is appreciated by everyone.
