Newsletter Week 6, Term 4

Claudine Campbell —

Hampstead School has been very fortunate to receive a kind and generous donation of basketballs from Summer and the wonderful team at Basketball Mid Canterbury. We are so thankful and grateful to have received these second-hand balls that still have so much life left in them. The students are so excited and keen to get their hands on them and play around with them.

Top Team: Our Yr 5/6 had a blast and got pretty soaked when Sport Canterbury brought the Top Team van out. These fun physical challenges provide lots of activity, team work and problem solving.

Second Hand Uniform Sale: Mrs Kilgour will hold another second hand uniform sale on Friday 6 December, 3pm in the library.

Christmas Pageant: On 4th December, the junior school has been invited to attend a Christmas Nativity Play hosted by the Hakatere Parish on Oxford Street. At the conclusion of the play we will sing some Christmas songs before returning to school. Hampstead School have attended in the past and it’s always been a fun outing. We understand that this may not align with the beliefs of all families. If you would prefer your child not to participate, please email your child’s classroom teacher to opt out. In this case, your child will remain at school during the event.

Classes for 2025: We farewell Miss Tessa Langdon, who has taken up a teaching position closer to home. We welcome two new teachers: Miss Halliday in Rm 2 and Miss Saunders in Rm 10.

Tahi the Therapy dog update: I was very lucky to spend two days in Auckland last week training with Tahi. He has many commands for us to learn. He is very disciplined well behaved and also very affectionate and playful. He is very calm and senses others mood easily. He arrives at Hampstead School on 2 December and the trainers from Mobility Dogs will work with Tahi and I at school for three days and then he will be placed here permanently. He will be a real asset to our school and we can't wait for him to arrive.

Student of the Week: George of Rm 1: George is an absolute delight to have in the classroom as he is a polite, respectful and caring boy who gets on well with everyone. He has the ability to make others feel happy and makes us all laugh with his funny sense of humour. He works super hard in class and is always trying his best and you can tell he works hard because he has made amazing progress this year. Helping and being a leader are some of the things George loves to do and is very good at, he takes his responsibilities very seriously and can always be relied on. We are lucky to have you at Hampstead School.
