Newsletter Week 10, Term 2
Kia ora e te Whanau. This term has flown by so quickly. The children have been really engaged in their Space inquiries and I have loved learning lots from the children. We look forward to seeing you at our Learning Conferences and Celebration of Learning Night early next term. All details are contained within this newsletter. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 17 July after the Matariki long weekend.
Trip to Ashburton Museum & Art Gallery: Thank you to the Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum for hosting our classes across three days last week. The children enjoyed the Matariki display and created their own special star that they brought back to school. The lucky last two groups (which I sneaked in with) even got to see the Colossal Squid exhibition a day earlier than it was planned to open. I was super proud of the children and received some lovely comments from the staff saying how wonderfully interested and respectful the children were. Tino Pai Tamariki!
Well done William: William headed to Christchurch on 21 June to compete at the Canterbury zone Cross Country. William did incredibly well placing 28th out of 118 runners! Congratulations William!
Duffy Books: It is always an exciting day when we have an inspiring Role Model assembly and then open our boxes of books. Each child chooses two books each term and we are very grateful to Duffy Books and Mainfreight Ashburton for making this possible. We love that our children end up with over forty books in their home libraries over their six years at Hampstead School. This assembly, we had Ray Bishop, who is a very talented singer/songwriter and entertainer inspire our children and encourage them to dream big.
Attendance - Every day at School is a big day: Attending school regularly is so important for children's learning as well as their social development and wellbeing. The Ministry of Education consider regular attendance to be 90% and above (Graphic below from the Ministry of Education website). We are required to monitor all children's attendance and take action where non-attendance is unexplained or irregular. Our Attendance officer is Tania and she visits our school each morning and can support families with school attendance. If you have any concerns or would like support, please get in touch. More information can be found here: https://parents.education.govt.nz/primary-school/your-child-at-school/making-sure-your-child-attends-school-every-day/
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - CHANGE OF DATE: Sorry about all the changes, but we have discovered that Intermediate also have a whanau evening on the Wednesday. We want our families to be able to attend both, so we have moved ours to Tuesday 25 July.
Learning Conferences: Bookings remain open to book your space to meet with your child's teacher here: https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/ttpvd or ring the office and they can make a time for you. Tuesday 18 July 3:15-5:15pm & Wednesday 19 July 3:15-7:30pm
Do you know anyone turning 5? To help with our planning and staffing, we'd love to know if any children living within our enrolment zone are turning 5 in the next year. If they haven't already pre-enrolled, please encourage them to get in touch. Here is a link to our enrolment zone: https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/find-school/school/profile?school=3367
Students of the Week: Last week we celebrated Parker of Rm 16. Parker, you are wonderful, and you make us smile each day. You love to learn, be curious and ask questions to help you gain a better understanding. Parker, you are a good role model to others and you have a magical finger when it comes to using our new TV. Parker, continue to be the amazing student you are as you help to inspire others. This week we acknowledged Charlotte of Rm 12. Charlotte is a hardworking student in Room 12. She has a very good attitude to school life and loves learning new things. She is kind, caring and helpful and is a good role model for other students in the class. A wonderful person to have in Ruma Tekau Ma Rua.
