Newsletter Week 10, Term 3

Claudine Campbell —

Wow, we are already at the end of Term 3. We wish everyone all the best for the school holiday period ahead. We start back on Monday 17 October.

Pasifika Fono: On Tuesday 18 October from 5pm, we are excited to have our first Pasifika Fono at school.  Please bring a plate of Kai to share and we will barbecue some food too.  All welcome and children welcome too.  We would love to talanoa with everyone and hear what you would like for your children at Hampstead School.

Wellbeing Open Afternoon: Tuesday was such a fantastic afternoon.  We really appreciate the energy and organisation Brenda Kingsford (Safer Mid Canterbury) brought to this.  She invited many local agencies along to share some of the services and supports that are available to families in our local area.  The children had a lot of fun and Kai for Kids made the yummiest picnic shared lunch.  It was great to see wo many whanau at school and many were fortunate to win one of the many spot prizes!

Duffy Books: All our children received two free Duffy Books last Thursday.  Unfortunately, our role model was unable to make our assembly this time.  We still had a blast opening up the boxes and seeing which books had arrived.

Staff Only Day: Our Staff will be engaging in some additional Professional Development on Thursday 10 November (this is the day before Canterbury Show Day),

Play then Eat: In Term 4, we are switching our break times so that children go out to play first and then come in to eat.  Our break times remain the same.  Play then Eat has been trialed in many schools and has been found to be helpful for children to eat in a more relaxed way.  They are able to take their time to eat while reading or being read to and therefore not rushing as they want to play.

Sun Hats for Term 4: A reminder to bring sun hats back to school for Term 4.

Star Students: Natalie of Rm 11 is a great mathematician who loves a challenge. She is also great at explaining and helping others once she is finished. She can be relied upon to do a job. She has a positive attitude to all her work and is always doing her best in everything. Natalie is kind, helpful, respectful and has a positive attitude to her learning.  William of Rm 13 shares his ideas in group discussions and speaks clearly. He is a hard working student and consistently completes his work to a high standard. He has very good manners. He always joins in with games and makes sure everyone is included.  Well done Natalie and William.

Meetings: Our Board of Trustees Meeting is Wednesday 26 October at 6pm in the Staffroom. All Welcome. Our next PTA meeting date is to be advised in Term 4.
