Newsletter Week 6, Term 1

Claudine Campbell —

Kia ora Whanau. You may have seen in the media that Primary and Secondary school teachers and principals will be taking strike action on Thursday 16 March. This means our Board of Trustees have made the decision to close our school on Thursday 16 March as we cannot safely open with no teachers available. We understand this is an inconvenience and we appreciate your support with this.

Congratulations Fletcher (Rm 7): Fletcher competed at the Mid Canterbury County Swimming Sports on Tuesday.  Well done Fletcher, we were very proud of you.

PALs (Physical Activity Leaders) Training Day: 15 of our Year 6 students had the opportunity to learn new games and activities that enhance our playground activity options for the school.  They worked with Sport Canterbury and we had wonderful feedback of what great leaders and role models they were.

Pool Party: Sunday 12 March 12-4pm. Everyone is welcome to join us to celebrate the end of a successful swim season.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. No charge, just come along and join the fun. Thanks again to our amazing pool committee who work really hard keeping our pool clean and chlorinated throughout the season.

Hampstead School PTA: Our PTA have their own Facebook Page. Please go and follow the page to find out about events and activities happening. https://www.facebook.com/HampsteadSchoolPTA We are always looking for new members, so feel free to attend the AGM on 28 March at 6.30pm in the Staffroom.

Students of the Week: Last week we celebrated Harrison of Rm 16 for always challenging himself to try his best both in class and in the playground. He is helpful to others in the classroom, especially his teacher. Harrison works hard to make good choices and thinks carefully about how he can best make those choices. He is a good role model to others. Well done Harrison, keep being you! This week we celebrated Fletcher of Rm 7 as he is so welcoming and encouraging of others. He is always willing to give everything a go no matter how big or small. He is kind, caring and is always using his manners to all students and staff. Fletcher has an infectious smile, makes smart choices and never fails to brighten up our class environment. Ka pai Fletcher, keep up the great mahi!

New Appointment: Next term we welcome Miss Brooke Hensman to Hampstead School.  She will be taking over from Mrs Crossen in Room 13.  Miss Hensman grew up in Mid Canterbury and has spent the last few years in Australia.  She will release Mrs Crossen on her release day later this term, so the children will get to know her before the holidays.

Teacher Strike: As mentioned above, our school will be closed for instruction on Thursday 16 March due to the Primary and Secondary School teacher Strike.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards
Claudine Campbell (Principal)
