Newsletter Week 4, Term 2

Claudine Campbell —

Kia ora e te whanau. Please see details above for our school Cross Country & Fun Run. We are so grateful to Kai for Kids for putting on a healthy kai for everyone. We hope you can make it along for lots of fun. We will all be in the middle of the field this year.

Pink Shirt Day: It was great to see all the children wearing pink or their favourite colour for pink shirt day last Friday. The children were involved in activities and discussions about what it means to be an upstander in the playground and how to source help in the playground. The children have also been busy colouring in a competition from Safer Mid Canterbury and these will go on display at the Ashburton Public Library. So keep a look out for these!

Soup Mondays: Kai for Kids are dishing up soup on Mondays this term. Sandwiches or toasties are still available as well. The feedback from the children has been that the soup is tasty and delicious and some are even coming back for seconds!

Visiting our local river: On Friday, Rm 13 & 14 had a fantastic trip to Hakatere River to get some more important experiences to build upon for our inquiry question, 'What Lies Beneath?' The students were amazed at the variety of different specimens we found in the water, as was Debbie from ECan, who found some she didn't think would be in our waterway. She will continue to work with us this term to build upon our findings, such as the importance of these invertebrates and water quality.

Thank you to Room 13 and 14 students for your amazing behaviour and the genuine interest you showed, and the helpers that came, we couldn't do it without you!

Samoan Language Week 26 May - 1 June: Next week we celebrate Samoan Language Week.   We are proud to have 29 Samoan students at our school.  We invite any of our Samoan families to share any aspects of your culture and language with us. Language weeks provide a wonderful opportunity for our tamariki to learn more about other languages and cultures.
