Newsletter Week 8, Term 2, 2025

Claudine Campbell —

Kia ora e te Whanau. Term 2 seems to be flying by and we are already at our last newsletter. A reminder that tomorrow (Friday 20 June) is a public holiday to celebrate Matariki. We look forward to seeing the children on Monday for the last week of Term 2.

Congratulations to our Choir: On Thursday 12 June, our choir performed at the Heartland Bank Music Festival. They all sounded beautiful and performed two songs. Special thanks goes to Miss Hensman and Mrs Corcoran for leading our choir. Many many hours of work has gone into getting them ready for the stage.

Healthy Active Learning Expo: At the HALs (healthy active learning schools) Expo, our PALS students and Jump Jam leaders were fantastic as they proudly ran our vibrant station with confidence and lots of energy! Linked to the Matariki star Ururangi (wind), we embraced movement through energetic Jump Jam dances. With rhythmic ribbons and loads of enthusiasm, we created an absolute buzz and had other schools joining the fun and there were awesome rewards and recognition for those who got involved. A very successful day overall. We couldn’t be prouder! Our PALS leaders were Mele, Jaylah, Jaxson, Ashton, Jackson Butler, Ryan, Boston & Will and we had Tyler, Eleni, Malaaika and Jasmine join us for our performance as Jump Jam leaders.

Hakatere Festival: Our Kapa Haka will perform at the Hakatere festival at the Events Centre on Thursday next week (26 June) at 10.30am. The programme is attached at the bottom. All welcome to attend and support, free admission.

Do you know someone turning 5 in the next year? If you know of anyone in our Hampstead School community or if any siblings are turning 5 in the next year or so, please complete an enrolment via the below link. This helps us prepare staffing and classrooms. https://enrolments.linc-ed.com/apply/NZ/3367

Road Safety: A reminder that the speed limit around our school 8.30-9.30 and 2.30-3.30 is 30Km per hour. We are getting an increasing amount of concerns raised about the speed of cars at drop off and pick up time. Please ensure safe parking that does not obstruct yellow lines and access points into our school (including the access to office as we have had an ambulance back up to the door to transfer from sick bay). We appreciate you keeping everyone safe and being considerate of others.

Reports: Midyear Reports containing progress updates on your child's reading, writing and mathematics as well as a general comment will be sent out via Hero on Friday next week.

Learning Conferences: Bookings are now open on Hero to book a learning conference with your child's teacher for the 16th and 17th of July. We will be serving light refreshments for afternoon tea / supper and hope you can all attend. Children are welcome to attend, however this is your choice. If these dates do not suit, you can arrange an alternative time with your child's teacher.

Board of Trustees Triennial Elections: The school triennial election will take place in Term 3.  Our election day is September 12. Nominations will close on 4 August at Midday. Nominations and voting all takes place online.  Watch out for emails from the returning officer (returningofficer@myschoolelection.nz) to check that your contact details are correct. Anyone interested in finding out more about how the board operates is welcome to reach out to myself or our Presiding member Anna Smith at boardchair@hampsteadschool.co.nz

New Whanau Afternoon Tea: 23 July, 3pm in Rm 1. All new whanau to our school will receive an invitation shortly.

Disco: Save the date! 1 August (Yr 0-3 5:15-6pm, Yr 4-6 6:15-7pm) We invite all whanau to a cuppa in the library while the children dance in the hall.

Student of the Week: Ry (Rm 15) is a joy to teach! He has such a kind and caring personality and he always tries his best. Ry can always be relied upon to put effort into his work and he takes pride in everything he does.

He has a wonderful positive attitude, brightening everyone's day with his cheerful attitude and willingness to embrace every challenge with a smile. His resilience and determination are truly admirable. Ry's all round contribution to Room 15 makes him an invaluable part of our class. Keep on shining Ry - you are certainly a star.
