Newsletter Week 6, Term 3, 2025

Claudine Campbell —

Mālō e Lelei! We’ve had a busy couple of weeks at school with everyone practising for our “Hampstead Roadies” whole school production as well as celebrating Tongan Language Week.

Winter Tournament: Today, we had 39 children taking part in the Mid Canterbury Winter Tournament. Hampstead Hawks and the Hampstead Honeys played Netball, Hampstead Hurricanes played Rugby and the Hampstead Heroes played soccer. We were very proud of how all the children represented our school by playing fair and being good sports. Thank you to the many helpers that supported the children by being managers, coaches and referees.

Sickness: We have had a lot of winter coughs and colds around school this term. We have heard of cases of Whooping Cough, Influenza A, RSV and Covid out in the community. We appreciate you keeping children home if they have any cold or flu symptoms. This helps contain the spread amongst classes.

Tickets to our whole school Production (Show): We still have a number of families that have not requested free tickets for our whole school production (show) on 12 September. All children will be performing in both the 11am and 6.30pm shows and we hope they can all have someone in the audience watching them. Friday 29th August is the last day to collect tickets and then we will be offering to families who would like more tickets.

Coding Club: We are very grateful to Jonathan at the Ashburton Public Library who has been running a Friday afternoon coding club with a group of senior students. They love using the Lego Education kits to challenge themselves and learn new skills.

Hampstead Friends & Whanau: We would like to invite anyone interested in getting involved to an Afternoon Tea on Thursday 28 August, from 3.15pm in Rm 1. We will have a few activities for the children to play with while we chat. This is not a fundraising group and we do not assign set roles. All welcome.

Student of the Week: Ezekiel (Rom 14), you always demonstrate resilience and a strong commitment to doing your best in all areas. You have a fantastic and friendly personality, you always follow the school rules and show honesty, responsibility, and care towards others. Your friendly nature and constant smile brighten our classroom, and your determination to overcome challenges is something you should be really proud of. You are an absolute pleasure to teach Ezekiel. Ka pai! Lincoln (Rm 3), is a kind and cheerful student whose positive attitude brightens every day. He consistently challenges himself and approaches new learning with enthusiasm and determination. Lincoln is a joy to have in our class and is growing into a wonderful role model for his peers. Keep shining, Lincoln! Ka pai!
