Newsletter Week 6, Term 3

Claudine Campbell —

Mālō e lelei. Next week we celebrate Tongan Language Week. We are proud to have 15 Tongan children at our school. We will celebrate the language and culture of Tonga over the week. I was very fortunate to attend a ceremony in Auckland last week, where the Ministry of Education gifted the Pacific Strategy Resource "Talanoa Ako ~ Make it Happen" to Principals. Malo 'aupito.

Kai at School: This week we kicked off our Kickstart Breakfast programme.  All children are welcome to make themselves a bowl of weetbix or have a glass of milk in their classroom before school.  Our school is supplied free weetbix and milk and although there is no provision for alternate milk or Gluten-free options, if you would like you child to take part and they are unable to have dairy or gluten, please get in touch so we can make a plan. Breakfast is completely optional and there is no sign up required.  In addition to this, Kai for Kids are now supplying yummy fresh fruit for morning tea.  Please contact the office if you would prefer to send your own morning tea and lunch each day.

Year 5/6 Ski Day: What a fantastic day skiing on Tuesday!  94 students headed up to Mt Hutt and had ski and snowboard lessons.  Huge thanks to the many adults that attended to make this event possible.  The children all had a fantastic day and improved their skills on the snow.

Bike Safety: We have been privileged to have Constable Sean Patterson in school teaching safety on bikes and scooters.  He is also delivering some cyber safety workshops with our senior students.

Bella in Rm 3 has developed and improved her focus and effort in her learning. She is working hard to do tasks set for her and does this in a happy manner. She is kind and thoughtful to others which makes Room 3 a happier place. Bella has fantastic classroom behaviours that also adds to her ability to stay focused.

Every School Day is a Big Day: You may have seen on the News that the Ministry of Education has launched a big campaign to raise attendance rates in schools.  Regular attendance is considered to be 90% and above.  At Hampstead School, we work hard to ensure our children are attending school regularly.  It not only supports their learning, but helps them develop social and self management skills.  Here is a short video that shows how every day counts:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uh41ReonKs
