Principal Pānui

Kate Christie —

How old are you?  What's your first name?  Do you have a husband?  What colour is your car?  Do you have a pet?

Kia ora e te Whānau

These are just a sample of the questions I have been asked in the last two days by our curious tamariki.  I feel like they are compiling a full overview of their new Principal and shall be reporting to the kura in due time. Best I answer wisely!  The children here have certainly energised me with their energy, humour and school spirit.  In just this week, I have sensed that our tamariki live the school values and vision: 'Confident, connected and shining brightly.'

I would like to take my first newsletter article as an opportunity to thank the people who have made my start to Harewood so welcoming.  Our Board of Trustees - thank you for believing in me to continue to grow Harewood School.  Joanna Woods, our Deputy Principal, stepped confidently into the Acting Principal role last term.  She has been by my side guiding me in the school's systems and areas of importance.  I am grateful to you Joanna for your support and knowledge of our kura.  Ngā kaimahi, our staff, what a team!  They have a palpable positive culture complete with contagious laughter throughout the day.  Thank you whānau for a great first week!  And to our tamariki and parents, I have so enjoyed a friendly chat as you have seen me at the gate or patrols.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be looking forward to meeting parent volunteers that support the school's activities and endeavours.  This Friday, the school is hosting a Mihi Whakatau ceremony at 10:30am to officially welcome me.  If you are able to come along, please feel welcome.

Ngā mihi nui
