Health

Harewood School —

A number of health professionals support us at Harewood School.

School Health Nurse

We have a school health nurse who visits the school regularly and who provide health support and advice. If you have concerns you would like to discuss with them,  contact details are available at the school office.

Mana Ake Workers

We have workers from Mana Ake working in our school to provide help in wellbeing and mental health support. These workers work alongside schools with children and whānau, to promote wellbeing and provide support when a wellbeing or mental health concern is identified.

Parents can go to this site can be assured of finding up-to-date and quality information on wellbeing and parenting skills. There is also a section to assist families who are requiring financial assistance

Hearing and Vision

Screening testing for hearing and vision is done by the Canterbury District Health Board. The tester visits the school several times a year. If you have any concerns about your tamariki’s vision or hearing then please let his/her teacher know.

Dental Clinic

Tamariki receive a dental check-up through our clinic generally once a year. Any necessary treatment is then done at other local school dental clinics. During the times of the year when the clinic is not open, emergency treatment is given at the clinic the dental therapists are working at, at that time. Appointments can be made by phoning 0800 846 983.

Accidents and Sickness

If a tamariki has an accident or takes sick at school, we try to get in touch with the parents as soon as possible. If we are unable to contact a parent, and we feel it is necessary, we will use the emergency contact phone numbers you have provided us.

Medication

If your tamariki needs medication administered during the school day a medication form needs to be completed and medication provided. Please see Kati in the office.

Sunsafe Practices

During Terms 1 and 4, for the whole school day, the school models “sun safe” practices and ensures staff and students take steps to protect themselves. All students and staff are required to wear wide brimmed hats when outside. Tamariki are encouraged to make use of shade during lunch, playtime, at sporting and other outdoor events.

Tamariki without a hat have to sit under the big tree in shade. The office sells bucket style hats for $10.

More information on our Sunsafe practices is available on SchoolDocs.

Speech Therapists

We are fortunate to have 2 Speech Therapists connected to Harewood School who can work with children during school hours. Parents contact the therapists and pay for this service. Please see the office for names and numbers.
