Office @ Heaton —

Kia ora whānau

It has been a very busy end to our term. Today, for example we have boys attending Christchurch Boys’ High School next year completing testing, the Rotary Speech preliminaries competition, our Year 7 Celebration of Learning being held in all Year 7 classes and the Celebration of the Arts evening performance tonight.

It is very exciting to see so much happening in our school and lovely to receive such positive feedback about the experiences families, whānau and friends are having attending these events. There have also been positive comments on how vibrant and colourful our school looks as well as being so clean and tidy. A lot of credit goes to Dean Terris our Maintenance and Property Coordinator. It is not easy keeping a very old school, that has experienced the ravages of earthquakes, looking so good. We all appreciate Dean’s efforts every day.

It is also great that our students can use our main field again after months of having to keep it closed. Our students coped well with a restricted play space for so long.

Many thanks to Fiona Taylor, our visual arts teacher, for ensuring we are all aware and informed about the 125 anniversary of Women’s Suffrage. It is an amazing achievement by New Zealand women, 125 years ago. I know our students have felt very moved by the Suffrage stories and they have shown this through their special efforts making the camellias for the enormous Camellia Chandelier which will hopefully be displayed in Christchurch, the home of Kate Sheppard.

On behalf of our Heaton team, we hope you all have a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday with your children.

Ngā mihi
