Heaton Success at Bandquest 2017

Guy Williams —

It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll, but not for the three Heaton rock bands who competed at Bandquest 2017.

On Tuesday 22 August, Heaton Normal Intermediate was represented by three rock bands at Bandquest 2017 which was held at The Charles Luney Auditorium in St. Margaret's College. The Year 7 band Radio Mayhem won three awards: Rocking Drummer (Jonty -  Room 1), Best Female Vocalist (Lila - Room 5) and 2nd place overall. The band closed the show with their hard rock performance of Still Breathing (Green Day) and The Pretender (Foo Fighters).

The Unknown opened the show with Rolling in the Deep (Adele) and Highway to Hell (AC/DC). Kalani  - Room 16 lit up the show with a stunning drum solo at to end their set. To Be Named performed fourth with renditions of Bad Day (Daniel Powter) and Wonderwall (Oasis). Judges commented on the band's confident performance and technical harmonies.

All bands went through an audition process at the beginning of 2017 and were put together by Mr Williams. The bands practise once a week in the drum room.
