Andrea Knight, Principal
Happy New Year to you all and welcome to our Heaton school community for 2017. I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday with family and friends. To our Year 8 students and families who are returning for the final year at Heaton, we really look forward to working together again. A very special welcome to all Year 7 students, new Year 8 students, families and our new staff members. Joan Green (Room 6) returns to us from the USA to teach a Year 7 class and Abby Nattrass (Room 16) is also teaching a Year 7 class. Ileea Stace, Jane Newton and Bev Adam join the Learning Support team.
The staff and I are very pleased with how the year has started. Our students seem very happy and pleased to be back at school after the summer holiday break. There is a very positive energy and enthusiasm throughout the school. We had our first full school assembly this year and it was a joy to see the pride in their new school the Year 7 students are already developing and what fantastic role models our Year 8 students are being.
Increasingly more families are taking students out of school during a school term for holidays. I do not encourage this as learning time is lost and there can be disruptions to friendships and social relationships in a student’s class. If time out of school during the term is absolutely necessary, please email me (not your child’s teacher) and request leave for your child. I appreciate your support with this.
The Heaton staff are looking forward to another fantastic year with your wonderful children. Please contact your child’s teacher, house leader, year level coordinator or myself if you have any queries or concerns.
