Year 7 Sailing Activity Day

Joan Green —

In Week 6 of Term 1, the whole of Year 7 went sailing with Kore Sailing at Lake Rua in the Roto Kohatu Reserve.

The weather was great, even though there wasn’t much wind for our sails!

We learnt how to rig the boat so it was ready to sail, and then set off on the water. We also learnt how to get in and out of the boat safely, and how to change sides when the wind changes.

There were supervisors in motorboats on the water with us at all times so it was completely safe. Instead of life jackets, we wore buoyancy aids. The difference is a life jacket has a bit around your neck but the buoyancy aids don't and that is because the neckpiece can get caught in your gear on the boat.

It was very fun and all of us loved having this opportunity. A big thanks to all the parent helpers, teachers and supervisors for making this happen.
