Raukawa at Waipara

Jenny Halligan —

On Monday 11th of April, Raukawa kaupeka travelled out to Waipara Adventure Centre. Jun and Charlie recap the day.

We had a great day out at Waipara Adventure Center. We completed 5 different challenging activities, the first being the Vertical Playpen. In this activity, you need a harness and helmet for safety. The playpen consists of 10 different obstacles that you climb up, on and through. When you reach the top there is this orange buoy that you have to touch to complete the course. It is 13m high. It does not look that high but when you get up to the top it's like you are on top of the world.

A faulty tower is an activity in which you need to pile up the milk crates. First, you need to wear a harness and helmet. Then you start with 3 crates. The goal is to pile up as many crates as you can. It usually takes 5 ~ 10 min each person and our record was 19 crates. I think it was one of the best activities.

Abseiling is an activity in which we walked down a rock. It is safe because the instructor is guiding the rope and we were also wearing harnesses and helmets. It felt kind of scary at first.

The water slide was a great activity. It started up on a hill and water was running down it so you could go really fast. It was very fun when you got to the bottom as there was a cold water pool that you splashed into.

On the confidence course, we competed in teams of 3 or 4. We had to fill an ice cream container with water and then complete the whole course without spilling a drop. The most water in the bucket wins.

We would like to thank Mrs Halligan, Ms Christie and Mrs Wilson for planning such a fun day.
