Anxiety in children.  A free talk to demystify anxiety and provide strategies you can use to support your anxious child.  Monday, 22 May, 7.00 p.m. Elmwood Normal School Auditorium.  Presented by Catherine Gallagher MA(Hons): Dip.Clin.Psyc.MNZCCP

Focus of talk:  When a child is suffering from anxiety, it is hard to know what to do as parents. It can be upsetting to witness our children’s distress. As parents we can lose confidence around handling these situations. This talk is aimed at providing information and strategies to understand and manage anxiety in order to ‘shrink it down to size’. This will enable your anxious child to ‘do life’ and be equal to any challenges they may face as they grow and develop.

About the Presenter:  Catherine is a clinical psychologist who has worked for 15 years in the public, private, university, and NGO sector working with children and their families, supporting them around emotional and behavioural issues. In addition to private practice, she is currently the clinical practice manager at START, an agency that supports children, youth and adults who have experienced sexual abuse.
