Pink Shirt Day

Jason Naidoo —

Dress up in pink to support Bullying Free NZ

On Thursday, 20 May we had the opportunity to stand up against bullying by dressing up in pink.  Each class received an award to present to the best dressed.  The best dressed class member then strutted their stuff at the outfit parade that was held at 12.45pm in the hall.  There was a lot of support and cheering as the students promenaded along the catwalk.  We collected a gold coin donation and raised over $400 for a very worthy cause.

Pink Shirt Day began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against a bully after their friend was bullied for wearing a pink shirt.

At Heaton, Pink Shirt Day works to create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.  It helps raise awareness about bullying prevention and being inclusive for everyone.

A big thank you to Mr Naidoo for organising this Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying event for us.  Thank you also to Mrs Hill for being our MC and thank you to the Student Teachers for judging our amazing representatives from each class.  Thank you to the Media Team for the music and capturing some great shots to record the day.  We had lots of fun and look forward to continuing to spread love and kindness at Heaton.
