Heaton successful at Canterbury-Westland Schools Science Fair

Jarrad Brown —

Issi (Rm 15) and Maddy (Rm 7) won an award for an innovation used to improve hygiene and personal comfort during lockdowns.

They were awarded 1st equal for the Canterbury University Research and innovation award for the exhibit with the most commercial potential.

Their innovation was an absorbent pad to reduce spills and mess while using temporary lockdown toilets.

During the school lockdowns this year, our temporary toilets got very full and the smell was unpleasant. This product was created to absorb liquids and reduce spills and smells. The product can be used during lockdowns, emergencies or when someone does not have access to a toilet.

A lot of work was put into the testing and development of this idea, our congratulations to Issi and Maddy for their well-earned success at this event.
