Tēnā koutou katoa. This is the 3rd year we have competed in the Tūhono Kapa haka competition which was on Friday night in Week 9. It is like playing in a sport final, except it is all Kapa haka groups of intermediate age.

We were not allowed more than 60 students in the group and ours was made up of both Year 7 and 8 students.

Each school had to enter a waiata tira (choral item), waiata-a-ringa (song with actions) and a haka. We then got judged on our singing, energy, facial expressions and actions. Every person in the group is judged and the group as a whole. We must bring a high quality performance which means; lots of smiling (but not during the haka), rhythm, knowing all the words and overall excellent presentation.

We dedicated this performance to Craig Robinson, our much loved teacher, who has sadly passed away recently. Craig will be remembered in Ōtautahi by many kaiako and tamariki for his amazing work and generous spirit. 

We would like to show our gratitude and thank our tumuaki, kaiako and whānau for all their support. We also thank Matua Sonny and Tui, our incredible tutors for all they do at our kura. 

It was a fierce competition which we all worked hard to prepare for.
