Kapa haka Whānau Performance

Chrissy Calder —

On Tuesday 23rd May our kapa haka rōpū performed in front of our tumuaki principal, kaiako and our whānau. Everyone was welcomed with a haka pōwhiri followed by an introduction from our leaders, Charlie, Lundon, Tayla and Sifa.

We then started our programme with ‘Tōku Reo’, a waiata about our love for te reo Māori, followed by ‘Ko Te Whirika’, a Kāi Tahu waiata ā-ringa about arriving as a stranger and leaving as whānau - an interwoven connection.

Next was ‘Aoraki’ a pepeha, followed by Ka Pioioi which talks of the love we have for our own people. Our haka was given in honor to Tahu Pōtiki then we finished off with ‘Matariki’ which is about the star constellation that tells us when our new year begins in Te Ao Māori.

We want to thank everyone for their support. Nō reira tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.
