Heaton's Jenny, Room 5, Sets Swim Record

Joan Green —

Heaton Year 8 student, Jenny, set a Canterbury West Coast record in the 50 m butterfly at the South Island Championships.

Heaton Year 8 student, Jenny, is a new swimming record holder! Jenny attended the South Island Championships Swim Meet at Jellie Park on Friday, 24 August to Sunday, 26 August with her swim club. This swim meet is the biggest meet in the South Island, with competitors from throughout the South Island.

Jenny won two medals. One was a gold for first place in the 50m butterfly. The other was a bronze for third place in the 100m butterfly. Her 50 m butterfly winning time set a new Canterbury West Coast record at 29.87 seconds for 50 butterfly in her 12-14 age group.

Jenny’s accomplishments are even more impressive given that, as a 12-year-old, she raced in the 12-14 year age group. Congratulations, Jenny!
