Health Programme "Feeling Great"

Jason Naidoo —

As part of our Health programme, ‘Feeling Great’ there will be a school wide focus during weeks 2 to 6 of Term 4. In health education, students develop competencies for health and positive sexuality, build resilience, learn to demonstrate empathy, and develop skills that enhance personal relationships. All Year 7 and Year 8 classes will be learning from a programme based on “Navigating the Journey: Sexuality Education Year 7/8”, developed by Family Planning. The following themes will be covered:

  • Establishing a positive learning environment - Te whakarite i tētahi ao ako huapai
  • Who am I? - Ko wai au?
  • Relationships - Ngā whanaungatanga
  • Growing and changing - Te tipu me te huri o te tangata
  • Staying safe - Te noho haumaru

These themes progress through the resource to support schools in delivering a coherent, school-wide sexuality education programme.

You are welcome to attend an information evening to hear a little more about the programme. We also welcome any questions you may have. The information evening will be held in the staffroom on Tuesday, 13 October, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Please RSVP your attendance by 9.00am on Monday, 12 October via my email naidooj@heaton.school.nz

If you want your child to be withdrawn from the class while a specific topic is being taught, please contact Mrs Knight in writing before the programme starts.

We look forward to working with the students through this programme and hope that you take the opportunity to have many interesting discussions at home regarding the content of the programme your child will be taught in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your support.
