Sue Sugrue —

We are enjoying getting to know students and families who are starting Year 7 next year. There was a high attendance at the Year 6 student/parent interviews earlier in the week and we look forward to a great attendance at the 2017 Information Evening tonight.

The arts have taken pride of place over the last few weeks with our students participating in the Christchurch Schools' Music Festival (general choir, special choir, orchestra and MCs) and the South Island Jump Jam competition. Students, teachers and support people worked very hard to ensure our school was represented to the highest possible standard. We received a lovely phone call from a member of the public who attended the Music Festival telling us how well presented and behaved the Heaton students were and that all the students participated enthusiastically. From this person’s point of view, the Heaton students really stood out as being the wonderful young people we know they are.

We are talking to all students about finishing the school year well. This means remaining focused on learning, participating with enthusiasm, following our Heaton values, respecting our wider community and wearing our uniform with pride. All of these have been very well demonstrated at our year level athletics days this week. Thank you to Tim Evers and all our staff ensuring these days were so well organised and lots of fun.
