Bandquest 2018

Kit Clarkson —

Heaton entered two bands; The Killers and Radio Mayhem into the Rockshop Bandquest 2018. What an amazing event with some very talented musicians.

Radio Mayhem was up first and represented Heaton superbly. They performed 'Somebody Told Me', by The Killers and 'Lights Out', by Royal Blood. The band consisted of Will and George on guitar, Jonty on drums, and Lila and Alisha on vocals. Highlights from their performance included a behind the back guitar solo by George,  an award for Musicianship to Jonty, energy from our vocalist and solid timing and rhythm from Will. Overall this band received second place in the competition and should be incredibly proud of their achievements and performance.

The Killers, made up of year 7 students at Heaton performed 'Zombie', by the Cranberries and 'Highway to Hell', by ACDC. Performing in this group was Ibai on drums, Lachie and James on guitar, Malachi on the bass guitar, Lily on keyboard & vocals, Matilda on ukelele & vocals and Sophie on vocals.  This group brought excitement, energy and passion to their performance on stage. Additionally, Lily won the rock star style award!

Both of these bands have been practising twice a week since term 1. You could see how all the practise paid off! A huge thank you to Matt and Mrs Hill for guiding these groups. Your expertise and experience gave the added lift both bands needed.

Here is Alisha's experience from Bandquest -

Going into my first ever band quest, I was nervous but excited. During sound check, it was a good time to see our competition and try to shake off some of the before show nerves. When our name was called out to go backstage and get ready for our performance butterfly's hit my stomach. When we got out on stage and started to perform the adrenaline was pumping through my veins and I never wanted the song to end, the cheers from in the crowd had us even more pumped up than before with George doing his awesome guitar solo behind his neck and Jonty rocking it out on the drums. I felt like all the hard work and practices were worth it. We were lucky enough to come second and some of our band members getting awards. I was proud of what we achieved as a group and individuals and can't wait for next year when this awesome opportunity comes around again.
