Summer Korfball Tournament

Guy Williams —

On the Monday 27th of November, two Heaton korfball teams met at 9 o’clock by the flagpole for the last tournament of the year (the most important one).

We made our way down to Elmwood park, filled with exhilaration and energy despite knowing that some of the teams had many Canterbury players.

While we were playing one of our many games or doing duty, we were in direct sunlight and it was scorching hot. It was a tough competition, and the competing teams exceeded our expectations. The opposing team members were towering over us and they moved with incredible agility.

Our two teams showed Heaton values while we played and displayed great sportsmanship. Unfortunately, we didn’t do as well as we’d hoped we would, but we know we all tried our best, and we can learn from the experience. We competed against 14 teams in total, and Team 1 came 9th while Team 2 came 14th.

A big thanks to Canterbury Korfball, who ran the event, and Mr Williams for giving up his time every Wednesday morning to coach us. We would also like to thank Mrs Buckenham Baines, Ms Newfield, Juliet, Youri and Rob as they have made this tournament possible.
