Kia ora whānau

Well, it is hard to believe that the end of Term 2 has arrived. It has been quite a journey for all of us with plenty of challenges but also plenty to celebrate and feel positive about. Life has almost returned to normal due to the hard work and determination of our NZ team of 5 million people. It will be wonderful to enjoy this holiday break by supporting our local businesses through travelling around our beautiful country and by enjoying everything that Christchurch offers.

Our staff and students have worked very hard this term and are well and truly ready for a much deserved break. Our team of 600 here at Heaton can feel very proud of the way they have risen to the various challenges that the last few months have brought, supported each other by being kind and thoughtful towards others and demonstrated gratitude for all the many wonderful things that have also happened.

The Bubble Photography Competition organised by Fiona Taylor, our visual art teacher and Tayla Room 19, inspired many beautiful and poignant images under the theme “Unity at Home". Well done to Fiona and Tayla and all the students who shared their special photos illustrating how they felt connected and safe in their whānau during the lockdown.

While I am really looking forward to the holidays, I am looking forward to Term 3 as we move into spring and back to competitive sport and many of the other opportunities that Heaton provides.

My very best wishes for an extra special holiday as a family and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.

Ngā mihi
