I had the pleasure of attending the Christchurch Primary Schools’ Musical Festival on 24 October. As usual, it was an amazing evening really showcasing the musical talent of our Christchurch children. Congratulations to all our Heaton students who were involved and well done to students selected for the Senior special choir, Orchestra and Concert band. Well done also to Monte G who was one of the MCs for the evening. Thank you to Janiene Hill for the time and hard work that goes into preparing the students who are in the massed choir. We look forward to next year’s performance, hopefully back in the Christchurch Town Hall.

Beautiful art has been produced and displayed at Tūranga and the Arts Centre by several Heaton students. Lily S’s piece entitled the Four Seasons of Lily is very special indeed and is part of To Ōtautahi with Love exhibition at the Arts Centre. Well done to all our students and to Fiona Taylor for her time and hard work with our students.

Congratulations also to the Heaton Girls’ Cricket 1st XI who are the 2018 Regional Champions. Fourth year in a row- what an amazing achievement! Many thanks to Barry van Beurton and Tim Evers for all their support.

It is indeed a newsletter of celebrations! Congratulations to the students and adults involved with supporting our kapa haka at the Tūhono competition held near the end of last term. Winning 2 out of the 3 competitive sections was a wonderful achievement. I felt so proud watching the powerful and passionate performances. Many thanks to our teachers Chrissy Calder and Janiene Hill.

The Heaton squad who participated in the NZAIMS Games near the end of the term, did our school proud as usual. It is a long and full on week up in Tauranga with our teams and individuals competing against the best in NZ. Huge thanks to Tim Evers, Paula Dore and Jane Newton for their hard work and amazing support for our students.

Term 4 always goes so fast, with exciting end of year events but mixed with sadness having to say goodbye to our Year 8 students. We encourage all our students to make the very most of the last term for 2018.

Ngā mihi
